Research and Scholarship at Mason
On Tuesday, January 19, 2021 and Thursday, January 20, 2021, the Office of Research conducted the first Research and Scholarship at Mason orientation, co-facilitated by Drs. Rebekah Hersch and Tonya Thornton. The orientation, which focused on new faculty, but open to all, was designed to help faculty become more familiar with the resources available and strategies necessary to undertake extramurally supported and impact driven projects as they lay the groundwork for excellence in research, scholarship and creative work.
Over 100 faculty, staff and administrators registered for the event and there were over 70 participants over the two-day orientation. Participants heard from the Vice President for Research, Innovation and Economic Impact; Associate Deans for Research; and a faculty panel in addition to representatives from the Office of Sponsored Programs; Office of Research Integrity and Assurance; Offices of Undergraduate and Graduate Education; Corporate and Foundation Relations; Office of Research Computing, Entrepreneurship; Innovation & Economic Development; and University Level Institutes (IBI, ISE and IDIA).
Since then, Research Development Services is planning a number of monthly-based seminars and workshops that can assist faculty in becoming more familiar with the resources available and strategies necessary to obtain funding for their research, scholarship, and creative activities.
